I am a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist (GHR Reg) and I am also certified to teach Mindfulness to children by the reputable British Mindfulness Institute which is part of the UK Mindfulness Network. I am also certified to *teach Mindfulness to teenagers. I work with children, teenagers and adults to support good mental health and well-being. I offer individual 1 to 1 support, groupwork and courses in both Hypnotherapy and Mindfulness privately, in schools and for corporate businesses. My name is Adele Mattis Dip.Hyp, I am a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist. I studied with Innervisions School of Hypnotherapy, which is a highly respectable hypnotherapy school based in West Yorkshire. Here I achieved my Clinical Hypnotherapy Diploma.

I am a member of The General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR) and affiliated with the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC). I am also trained as a Mental Health First Aider with MHFA England.

Hypnotherapy has changed all areas of my life! It has helped me reduce mental stress and *to build more self-confidence. I practice Mindfulness daily, which has improved my well-being and helps me to cope when stressful situations arise.

Many of my clients have enjoyed their hypnotherapy sessions and saw the value of the coping strategies. Some have then asked me to set up sessions for their children. I studied with the British Mindfulness Institute, which is part of the UK Mindfulness Network, where I completed the Professional Training in The Applied Use for 7-11 Year Olds course.  From then I became certified to Teach Mindfulness to Teens by the Centre of Adolescent Studies (CAS).

In March 2020 I achieved an accredited Level 3 in Counselling Skills. This helps me to listen to my clients and help them get to their root of their issues. I also qualified as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Practitioner in Dec 2012. I am certified and accredited by Udemy.

What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?

Clinical hypnotherapy means that we use advanced methods of hypnosis and other techniques to treat a wide range of medical and psychological problems. It is an evidence based therapy and has a high success rate.

The client is guided into a state of hypnosis. Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness in which the client may go into a light, medium or deep state of relaxation. Through hypnosis we can temporarily bypass the conscious mind and gain access to the powerful subconscious mind, where we use the imagination and skilled verbal communication to help to create new pathways in the brain. This enables you to create the life that you want by thinking in more rational, calm and positive ways, whilst letting go of old mindsets, limiting beliefs and patterns of behaviour which no longer serve you.

Research has shown that Clinical hypnotherapy is 93% more successful than other psychological therapies over a lesser period. Hypnotherapy can help with many psychological issues including stress, anxiety, depression, weight control, smoking cessation, fears and phobias, exam stress, public speaking, fears and phobias, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), insomnia, bereavement and lack of confidence and self-esteem.

Anxiety is a normal stress response, an overwhelming sense of apprehension and fear. These feelings can disappear after the stressful situation has ceased, like speaking in public or taking an exam. People who have an anxiety disorder live in a constantly anxious state which can be debilitating, as it starts to affect many areas of their lives.

Anxiety can present itself in many different forms, like social anxiety, health anxiety etc. Hypnotherapy can be used to create feelings of confidence and self-belief, using positive suggestions to help the client to gain new perspectives which can reduce feelings of fear and worry. Therefore, the client can start to have a calmer state of mind and work to reduce their previously overwhelming feelings of anxiety.

If you feel anxious about any of the following:

-Public speaking
-Social anxiety
-Separation Anxiety

Our modern lifestyles can be stressful and many of us live in stressful states without even being aware of it.  Some people have mental and physical symptoms of stress and feel unable to cope. Hypnotherapy can reduce mental stress by breaking negative thought patterns. During hypnosis positive suggestions are used to change the way that the client responds to stress.

If stress is affecting your life in a negative way, book a free consultation.

We all have periods in our life when we feel low, but for some people this is for prolonged periods of time which can become a mental health condition called Depression. Carrying out day to day activities can be challenging and there can be a loss of interest in activities that you once found enjoyable. There can be a change in sleeping patterns, lack of energy, lack of sex drive, under/over-eating, anger, sadness and irritability, to name a few symptoms.

Depression is common in our modern world. According to research, it’s the biggest mental health problem worldwide, followed by anxiety. There are different types of depression including Seasonal Adjustment Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Chronic Depression and Prenatal and Postnatal Depression.

Hypnotherapy can help with Depression as it works to break the old cycles and release self-sabotaging patterns, past traumas, and negative emotions so the client can create new positive mindsets.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a form of talking therapy that challenges and changes cognitive distortions. It works on the theory that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are all interconnected. Therefore, your negative thoughts and feelings can trap you into a vicious cycle. CBT helps you to break the vicious cycle by focusing on the problem and taking appropriate action to change the patterns that no longer serve you.

How does CBT work?

My role is to assist you in finding and practicing effective strategies to alleviate symptoms of the disorder.

CBT aims to help you deal with overwhelming problems in a more positive way by breaking them down into smaller parts. The aim is to change these negative patterns to improve the way you feel, think and behave.

CBT deals with your current problems, rather than focusing on issues from your past like other talking therapies. It looks for practical ways that you can improve your state of mind on a daily basis.

Mindfulness and meditation have been clinically proven to promote healthy mental well-being as *they increase relaxation, reduce anxiety and bolster self-esteem. *The roots of Mindfulness are in ancient spiritual practices and it has become very popular in our western world, as the evidence of scientific research has shown its many benefits.  Mindfulness can train the mind to be aware of the moment, the ‘now’ without attaching positive or negative judgments to it.

According to research, practicing mindfulness has been proven to bring the following emotional, physical, and mental benefits:

-Reduces stress,
-Reduces excessive overthinking and depression,
-Reduces emotional reactions to upsetting events,
-Enhances immune functioning,
-Improves relationship satisfaction: increasing emotional honesty and -transparency and managing the stress of relationships,
-Increases working memory capacity,
-Increases information processing speed,
-Increases focus and ability to suppress distractions.

Benefits of teaching Mindfulness to children/teenagers

Children today experience much more pressure than previous generations. It can come from many sources like school, parents, hobbies, peers and social media. This pressure can turn to stress and anxiety or low mood, which can start to affect all areas of their lives.  Some children never have the chance to experience freedom (mentally or physically) and can be exposed to things they are too young to process or understand, which can create big fears/phobias in their minds. Many are overloaded with sensory information or don’t get opportunities to switch off.  This has led to many children being diagnosed with anxiety disorders, low mood, behavioural issues and developmental delays. Mindfulness can help children manage their feelings and improve their mental and emotional health and build confidence and self-esteem from a young age, if practiced regularly.

Here are some of the recognised benefits that Mindfulness can provide for your child’s mental health:

-Reduces anxiety and stress
-Improves attention and focus
-Decreases negative self-belief
-Enhances happiness
-Eases symptoms of depression
-Helps overcome somatic symptoms (physical symptoms caused by psychological problems)
-Stimulates mindful self- awareness

-Improves social and emotional skills
-Develops the ability to manage difficult emotions
-Decreases hyperactivity and aggression
-Improves behaviour regulation
-Reduces reactivity and encourages reflection
-Improves relaxation and calmness
-Relieves fears and feelings of helplessness
-Balances high and low energy levels

Weight Control

Weight Control

There is no miracle cure for losing weight. Weight loss professionals can give you the tools you need but the individual must do the hard work for themselves. Hypnotherapy for weight control can help you to change your old conditioning and patterns of behaviour and which will help you to create new habits which lead to a healthy lifestyle.

This is a 4-week programme concentrates on your two biggest issues which stop you becoming your desired shape and size. The most important thing to know about this programme is that it is not a diet. Hypnotherapy for weight control has a 98% success rate and can help you to lose weight in a natural, healthy way.

Fears and Phobias

Fears and Phobias

Fear is a natural response to danger. Fear is designed to escape dangerous or threatening situations. Sometimes fears can build over time and can lead to clients being overwhelmed with anxiety.

Phobias are a type of anxiety disorder and can develop from a negative experience, often from childhood. This experience triggers an exaggerated or unrealistic fear response. For example, a parent screamed when they saw a wasp and it scared you. From then, every time you see or hear a wasp you experience unrealistic and overwhelming fear response. This can lead to severe anxiety and panic attacks. It can cause so much restriction that the person is unable to live a normal life. The good news is because the Phobia is often a learned response, Hypnotherapy can be very effective in collapsing the old response, build up exposure of the phobia and reduce the associated anxiety.

Low Self-Confidence

Low Self-Confidence

Low self-confidence and self- esteem are often seen as the same thing but they are different. Some one with low confidence can have high self-esteem, and people who are confident most areas of their life can still suffer from having low self-esteem.

Low self-confidence is something many of us suffer with and can be a result of many factors like fear of the unknown, low self-esteem and fear of other people’s perceptions. This lack of confidence can hold us back from developing both personally and professionally.

Low confidence means that a person can lack confidence in their abilities in some areas of their life.  For example, people may feel unconfident about doing their job to a high standard.   A fear of change, the unknown and other people’s opinions can develop. This can hold people back both personally and professionally, leaving people feeling low, isolated and may eventually lead to mental health issues.

Hypnotherapy can be very effective for low self-confidence. During hypnosis positive suggestions are to facilitate positive change, which is needed to create new positive beliefs about yourself.

Low Self-Esteem

Low Self-Esteem

Low self-esteem is how we perceive ourselves.  During childhood, we created thoughts and opinions about ourselves, who we are and what we are capable of, this was validated by our significant others. For example, we feel that they are not good enough if we have had a critical parent or have been bullied in the past, therefore suffer from low self-esteem.

These beliefs are ingrained but can change. Hypnotherapy is very effective along with changing your self-talk and having more compassion towards yourself.
